Tournament Guidelines

Helpful tips for tournaments:

1. Registration: Registration for tournaments is conducted online or by mail in form. Please make sure to register in the                    correct age group and division. We usually decide as a group which line times we shoot as a team (to make transportation          and support easier)

2. Things to bring: In addition to their shooting equipment, all archers should have their USA archery membership card, a pencil      and pen, and a calculator (phones are not allowed at the targets) with them at all tournaments.

3. Uniforms: Our Uniform rules are in effect at all tournaments we attend.

Team shirt (color to be determined before shoot), or a collared shirt for team members who do not have team shirts yet.

Khaki or Black pants (shorts or skorts are permitted for outdoors) No denim or blue jeans are allowed under USA                         archery rules.

Closed toe shoes, Athletic shoes or boots are OK. No sandals or flip flops per USA archery rules.

Hats are optional but are limited to baseball style caps or visors. (vendor or archery logos are acceptable)

4. Please arrive 1 hour prior your shooting time for check-in and equipment inspection. At check-in please verify you are                  registered in the correct age group and division. You will also get your lane and line assignments at check-in.

5. Equipment inspection: For USA archery events an equipment inspection is required. At inspection a judge will check the             following:

The archer will be asked to draw the bow with a scale to confirm the bow does not exceed the #60 draw weight limit

Check that all the arrows match, the archers initials are marked on the arrow shafts, and that the arrows do not exceed               the maximum allowed diameter of 23/64".

Check that no lights are being used on the sight.

Check that the archers uniform is within USA archery guidelines.

6. Announcements: The judge or tournament officials will go over the format, and scoring at the beginning of the tournament. It     is very important for the archer to be present and attentive at these announcements. It is the archers responsibility to know       the rules for the tournament.

7. Shooting:

Equipment not being used must be placed behind the waiting line.

Archers that are not shooting must remain behind the waiting line until the line command for shooting or retreiving arrows.

Archers are expected to observe line ettiquette at all times while shooting including no talking, keeping their equipment             within their shooting lane and not bumping the other archers (quivers, arrows, and stabilizers) Do not exit the shooting line         when archers on either side of you are at full draw.

Raise your bow only when the judge blows the whistle once.

Notify the judge immediately for a pass through or bounce out.

Notify the judge immediately for an equipment failure or medical issue.

If you are the last archer exit the line immediately after you finish shooting.

The target mat and arrows cannot be touched until after all of the arrows have been scored.

After all of the arrows on the target have been scored, mark the holes before the arrows are pulled.

8. Scorecards

Make sure of the information is filled out correctly including name and division

Use a pen to record the arrows, any changes must be corrected by the judge or by all of the archers on the target and             verified by the initials of the archers.

Keep the running total and verify with the other scorer. Math corrections do not need to be made by a judge.

For indoors 10's are recorded (inner ten for compund, outer for recurve) For outdoors X's are counted in the total number         of 10's.

Be sure to check your score and sign your scorecard before turning it in at the registration desk.

If you are scoring, be sure to get another archer to initial the card.

Be sure to turn in both cards at the registration desk. The officials will verify the scores and return one back to you.

For events with electronic scoring, the paper scorecard is always used as the official score.

9. Most importantly be safe and have fun. Focus on your form and not your score.
