FAQ
Q: Is the JOAD program for beginners?
A: No. To participate in JOAD all archers must have some prior instruction or shooting experience. (either through the club or NASP)
Q: How does my archer get started in JOAD?
A: The best path to JOAD is to participate in the beginning archer classes and the youth league offered at the beginning of each year at the club. After completion of the youth league, our summer session is designed as an introduction to competitive archery for archers new to JOAD.
Q: Does my archer need to have their own equipment to participate?
A: Yes. Each archer needs to have their own equipment.
Q: What is the cost of the program?
A: Registration is $ 90 per year for intermediate and advanced team members. In addition to the annual registration fee, archers are required to be current members of Tuscarora Archers, The Maryland Archery Association, and USA archery. Registration fees for tournaments are separate.
Q: Do I have to participate in all of the tournaments on the schedule?
A: No. Participation is up to the individual archer. However, because this is a developmental program archers are required to compete in a minimum of five tournaments per year to maintain their position on the team.
Q: How much does the equipment cost?
A: The cost of the basic equipment to get started (bow with rest and sight, arrows, quiver, and release) is generally around $600. Costs for an advanced equipment set-up can easily exceed $2000. Our coaches constantly search for quality used equipment that can be passed along to help reduce costs.
Q: How much does the registration for tournaments cost?
A: The costs vary based on the tournament. Local and state tournaments are usually $10 - $35, while regional and national tournaments may vary from $35 - $150.
Q: How do I find the schedule of tournaments the team is participating in?
A: We use TeamSnap to manage our roster, schedule and to provide E-mail notifications. Access to Teamsnap is provided to registered members of the team.
